How to Use Your Cunningham Incontinence Clamp
This information will help you learn how to use your Cunningham Incontinence Clamp, including how to find the right size, how to apply it, and how to clean it.
The Cunningham Incontinence Clamp is a device that can help control urinary stress incontinence (not being able to control the flow of urine) and dribbling related to prostate cancer or other urinary problems in men.The clamp is made up of a hinged, stainless steel frame that supports 2 foam rubber pads and a locking device (see Figure 1). It controls leakage by putting light pressure on the urethral canal on the underside of the penis.
The clamp can be used throughout the day and released in between urinations. It is reusable and can be washed.
Finding the Right Size Clamp
The Cunningham Incontinence Clamp is available in 3 sizes: large, regular, or juvenile. To find the size that is right for you, you will need to measure the area around the shaft of your penis while compressing it slightly.
To do this, gently compress the middle of your shaft with your thumb and forefinger. Apply enough pressure to stop the flow of urine. Then, measure the area around your shaft using a tape measure.
- If your shaft is 3 inches, you will need the large clamp.
- If your shaft is 2 inches, you will need the regular clamp.
- If your shaft is 1½ inches, you will need the juvenile clamp.
